Oh snap…
If you are familiar with the Wheatley fanbase, every Human!Wheatley is a little different from each other. Even though they are all the same character, each one either looks different and/or was created with some purpose. (e.i., NQN and Bay’s Wheatleys are used for testing, being human clones with robotic bits thrown in)
This got me thinking: what would my Wheatley be used for? Other then having the universal ability to come up with bad ideas, he’s just a super short, baby faced android.
Okay, now we’ve all seen Evil!Wheatley, or also known as Corrupted!Wheatley. No Wheatley (canon core form or human/android) should ever be hooked up to Aperture’s mainframe, because he’s just not build for it. He goes mad with power along with the bad ideas.
But then I had an even scarier idea. What if there was a Wheatley created who’s only real purpose was to act like a self-destruct mechanism for all of Aperture? I’m not talking like destruction because he’s an moron; no, I’m saying he was programed to completely wipe out everything in the event that Aperture’s secrets were stolen or something to that effect. A last resort that not even Glados had power over.
He wouldn’t know he had this function, and he wouldn’t even look like someone that could do that; it would be someone that didn’t look threatening at all…
Imagine a Evil!Wheatley that wasn’t ‘evil’ because he was corrupted, but simply because he was programed to act like that in the event his primary functions are activated. He wouldn’t be destroying everything because he’s a moron, he would be destroying everything and knowing just what he was doing, with pinpoint accuracy.
Yeah
I’ll let you guys digest that for bit. What do you all think?
I love that idea, although I think being built for an evil/destructive purpose, doesn’t necessarily make one evil, especially if they don’t know about it or show obvious signs of it.
If he did know, and he decided to use that for evil, then I would find that terrifying. Like if his programming would require something at Aperture to happen before he could destroy everything, he could threaten to make that happen, to make everyone else obey to him or something like that.
If he didn’t know, or didn’t have any evil intentions, I imagine he would panic when realising his fate, begging everyone around him to help him stop himself, which would still be scary imo. But that would of course also require some extra time.
Still, I love the idea, and I’d love to see more of it in general (not just in Portal)
Also he’s a cutie :-)Wow, thanks for the in-dept answer there, yellow-lemon-lime. I like your suggestions on him either knowing or not knowing he could destroy everything. I really like the idea of him freaking out once he realizes what he’s capable of. He would pretty much be fighting off his own programing, or begging for someone to help him. The other way around would work too; he could get angry enough to use that power after learning about it, and then things get REALLY out of control.
Man, I feel like this would make a kick ass story if I got the right people to help me. :)
But he could also have a personality change, similar to being plugged into the chassis, when his programming is activated.
